This Creepy Thriller
Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a follow-up. Set in the late 70s in Denver, multiple disappearances has left the youth frightened. When Finney gets captured by “the Grabber” and held captive in a cellar, he anticipates a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby keeps ringing, with ghostly voices offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. This Saturday, 10.50pm, on Film4
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky biopic regarding the shamed TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, bad makeup and bad faith, though Jessica Chastain succeeds to depict Tammy Faye with compassion. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
